Then came Tommy Thompson, “Mr. TooTall” himself, who turned the place into Too Tall’s in the mid-1990s. For more than 25 years, Tommy made this spot a Creston favorite for ice cream, food, and those simple nights that become family traditions.
Long before Too Tall’s had smokehouse BBQ, flurries, burgers, and big cones, this little building on Coit Avenue was already making memories.
Built in 1916, this corner has been part of the neighborhood for generations. Many longtime locals remember it as Mike’s Dairy King, a classic walk-up ice cream stop where summer meant cones, kids on bikes, sticky fingers, and a line of neighbors waiting for something sweet.
In 2020, Andy and Lorissa Engle became the next owners and took on the job of keeping the magic alive while adding a few new chapters: more savory eats, smokehouse BBQ, catering, events, and new treats alongside the classics people already loved.
